[Music] the New York Yankees continued their aggressive offseason moves by acquiring former MVP Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs in exchange the Yankees set right-hander Cody potit to the Cubs and received $5 million in financial considerations the Yankees plan to use Bellinger as their everyday center fielder and occasional first Spaceman shifting Aaron judge back to right field this trade is part of the Yankees response after missing out on juodo who signed a record-breaking deal with the Mets along with Bellinger the Yankees have already signed left-handed starter Max Fred and acquired All-Star closer Devin Williams signaling their intent to compete at the highest level next season negotiations with the Cubs were initially stalled with the Yankees demanding the Cubs cover 10 Mill milon of Bellinger’s remaining $52.5 million contract the two teams ultimately split the difference with Chicago covering $5 million of Bellinger salary the Cubs who recently acquired Kyle Tucker from the Astros plan to use the savings to bolster their starting rotation Bellinger a two-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner hit 266 with 18 home runs and 76 RBI last season a decline from his 307 26 home run season the year prior Chicago had hoped Bellinger would opt out of his contract but they began shopping him at the GM meetings when he chose to stay meanwhile the Yankees are now in talks to sign a free agent first baseman with names like P Alonso Christian Walker Carlos Santana and Paul goldshmid on their radar Alonso the only candidate without a go glove hit 34 home runs last season and could provide additional power to New York’s lineup Bellinger joined the Yankees 23 years after his father clay Bellinger helped the franchise secure two World Series titles the younger Bellinger looks to make his Mark in Pinstripes as the Yankees aim to contend for a championship once again
