I think when you look at Michael Porter he’s the guy that most misses assignments defensively and most misses reads offensively you know it’s just who he is some guys think the game quickly he thinks it a little bit slowly Zack LaVine has never been great at that but maybe you get him into Denver system you see the success Westbrook has had because guys that can get into the paint joic opens up the paint so that’s a good partnership maybe Zack LaVine would provide that [Music] all right back here segment two I got Tim legler with me and there was some news today on the athletic reported by Tony Jones and Sam amch that the Denver Nuggets are aggressive in the trade market right now perhaps looking to move Michael Porter Jr I think he’s on a Max contract he’s maybe the most movable piece on their roster uh a useful 610 shooter but the names they’re looking at are kind of interesting to me Zack LaVine cam Johnson and probably either Dorian Finn Smith and boy bonovich alongside him Brandon Ingram Jordan P Jordan Clarkson DeAndre Hunter Jonas valent chunis let’s start at the top of that list was Zack LaVine because he was the guy that the report said at least the Nuggets were the most aggressive pursuing the nuggets have Jamal Murray they have Russell Westbrook is Zack LaVine a good fit for the Denver Nuggets and in particular replacing Michael Porter you know at small forward you think Zack LaVine makes you better than having Michael Porter Jr in that spot I I don’t I don’t think so I don’t I think it’s maybe you’re you’re about the same it help your offense is there maybe it gives you another driver there’s some reasons to think maybe it makes your offense better but guess what offense is not a problem with Denver that’s exactly right and Zack LaVine is is not you know he’s not a big factor defensively he’s not going to rebound the ball at the level Michael Porter Jr has and Michael Porter Jr his rebounding was a weakness in his career early on he he was you know he wasn’t physically his frame and just his mentality wasn’t ready and he got picked on defensively he got picked on by getting thrown around on the glass he he’s gotten to the point where Michael Porter Jr has had some big rebounding games and big spots and he’s gotten some tough rebounds in traffic when you have to have it he is legitimately 610 so and he’s got a you know shooting stroke that’s right there with line these are two of the best you know shooting Strokes in the league both of those guys can really fill it up I don’t know that Zack LaVine makes you significantly better he’s also you know what’s Zack lavine’s track record in big moments in in in big postseason games doesn’t really have one Michael Porter Jr’s been through that he he has and he’s played well in big spots for them in the postseason so I just don’t know that that to me is is anything where I go oh man yes that’s absolutely a vertical move that feels very much like a lateral move or a slight step back if if I play Devil’s Advocate because I think I agree with you you know that Michael Porter provides some things to them that are hard to replace Zack LaVine Denver does need ball handlers they don’t have a lot of guys that can create their own shot or can just handle the ball and we saw last year when Minnesota really put the pressure on Jamal Murray you needed a release valve and Denver didn’t have one so Zack LaVine would give you a secondary guy that could bring the ball up the court run pick and roll create his own shot run the bench all of these different things that would be a value ad I think when you look at Michael Porter he’s the guy that most misses assignments defensively and most misses reads offensively you know it’s just who he is some guys think the game quickly he thinks it a little bit slowly Zack LaVine has never been great at that but maybe you get him into Denver system you see the success Westbrook has had because guys that can get into the paint jic opens up the paint so that’s a good partnership maybe Zack LaVine would provide that so while I agree with you that defensively I just don’t get what Denver’s doing they’re they need help defensively you’re not bringing in a defensive player there but offensively you could say the ball handling and ability to get into the paint would be something Denver could really use yeah I I guess that’s a fair point he’s certainly going to be a little bit better with the basketball and and coming off a ball screen or isolating on a guy and being able to get you know to a better spot yeah I I guess yeah right he’s better than Michael Porter junor aard but to my point I made earlier I I wasn’t sure exactly what Zack lavine’s like playoff track record is and now I do I just looked it up do you know how many games Zack lavine’s played in the playoffs in his career four quick series four so and and he shot you know he averag 19 points a game shot 42% in that series um and that doesn’t mean the guy you know who knows I’m just saying like I would rather if I’m Denver I’d rather get a guy and I know you don’t want it you know you don’t want a guy that’s like in his mid-30s that’s got a ton of playoff experience like that that’s just not just to make that point but I’m saying I’d rather have a guy that’s been around as long as Zack LaVine you get a guy in that same age bracket same wheelhouse that at least has had a little bit more taste of it and it played well in those spots to me that would be something I would look for if I was Denver I agree with you about the ball handling component and getting his own offense getting his own shot and Denver does not have a lot of that I just I don’t know to me I don’t know that that’s that’s something that’s going to make them in my mind would make them um more viable to me in the west if they’d made that move all right well let’s go to Brandon Ingram because him and Michael Porter are at least comparable long skinny Shooters but they definitely have different mentalities and different you know personalities I’m not a Brandon Ingram guy you know this so this would put me in hell but he is really talented and is there any chance that you know H the Michael Porter role he could thrive in Denver I don’t know man there’s just no trust factor for me with Brandon Ingram I love over here legs come on sorry man I don’t know what to tell you I mean I’d love to I’d love to say something different I just I don’t have I don’t have enough faith in him number one he’s he’s hurt a lot yeah the guy gets hurt a lot and that’s to me me is not like at some point you don’t just go oh man that’s kind of flukish at some point you’re got to go man what is up like Jo and beid somebody sent I don’t know if this is true somebody sent me a text message the other day said there’s been 35 facial fractures in the NBA period total in like 50 years he’s got three of them and you start to go like okay is that just all bad luck or like this guy just you know I don’t know he’s not he’s not like smarter in the way that he goes about his business on the court to protect his body a little bit but I don’t know but same thing with Ingram it’s like at some point you go oh this isn’t like a string of bad luck here it’s like no it’s not going to happen he’s not going to be healthy now he could flat out score man he is a far more talented offensive player than Michael Porter Jr there is no question about that and I think even defensively when he gets serious about it I think is probably can even do more things but I just don’t know if the intent level is there the want to is there and can he stay healthy for me that would be a red flag be a nightmare for me man to risk jokic’s Prime on a guy that just has not shown the motivation needed and in in the sense of urgency needed that the Nuggets uh are bringing to the season all right some trades I do like so cam Johnson and probably Dory and Finny Smith but maybe buam bogdanovich cam Johnson to me another guy that’s going to be a tall shooter so you recoup what you lose from from Michael Porter in the shooting Department I think and and then just a guy that’s going to be one less needy cam Johnson is fine if he touches the ball 10 times gets six shots he’s fine with that he’s going to he understands the game he reads it really well he’s a guy that I actually would love in Denver and then you get an additional Dorian finy Smith or buan bogdanovich both of guys who would make Denver’s top eight rotation that’s a move to me that I can get behind I think cam Johnson is a good player I like him he doesn’t fall into the category the first two guys you mentioned who I had some question marks about I don’t really have any question marks about him I there’s a limitation on his ceiling but so does Michael Porter Jr right they both have limitations on their ceiling but again I don’t know that that is much different than what you have now and you already have and you have a guy that has to you know your point I think you were making a point there about like does he get pouty does he get Sullen Michael Porter Jr if like he’s not getting his number he does yeah sometimes he does so okay so you know I don’t think it to me when I’ve watched him it’s been something like jumped out to me where I thought man this guy’s got an attitude problem or something like that so but I I agree if it can be there but he he at least knows exactly how he has to play off of jic yeah like he knows exactly what that looks like that system and everything else and so again it’s it’s kind of a lateral move I like cam Johnson a lot I like Michael Porter Jr too so I don’t know that’s tough one for me that’s six one half dozen the other I think you might be right I still think it might work a little bit better just because cam Johnson to me is a pro and he knows he’s a fifth option Michael Porter sometimes he’s a second option sometimes he’s a fifth kind of goes back and forth definitely would love to be a second option I think cam Johnson’s fine being a fifth option and sometimes that helps just the clarity OFA Michael Porter Jr or Cam Johnson are your second option you’re you’re going to the lottery yeah you’re in trouble uh the last ones for you Jordan Paul Jordan Clarks and they’re kind of a similar mold that would be a sixth man type guy you’re getting now a guy who can get his shots up Denver is always struggled when yic is not on the court I don’t know how to solve that problem this is a 10-year problem that the nuggets for some reason can’t figure out how to get him a lineup to can score when joic goes to the bench maybe the answer is just get a guy who’s good at buckets you know you don’t have a system when yok’s at the bench forget it don’t try to run one you just got a couple guys that can get their own shot and you live and die with that do you do you buy any rationale to one of those two guys Jordan P or Jordan Clarkson yeah Jordan Clarkson I mean I think Jordan Clarkson is you know he’s is very comfortable with the lane you put him in just let him do his thing and he’s going to he’s going to do that for you he can score against anybody um he seems to have a more positive energy and Vibe than Jordan P like Jordan p is a tough guy to read for me because when he first broke onto the scene in Golden State man I thought this guy’s got a super high skill level set um and obviously it all fell apart there for a lot of reasons some of which were directly attributed to Draymond Green but like at the same time that situation doesn’t arise out of nowhere where okay so and there’s a reason Jordan P was then shipped and he goes to a team in Washington and you look at the Wizards and what Jordan P has been or done since he got there now I don’t know if he just needs to be back playing relevant games again and will kind of appreciate his skill level or you know what I mean it’s it’s a chicken or the egg question like I don’t know man like what is this guy’s DNA what’s his makeup and we might not know that until he gets to another spot where he’s playing meaningful games in a in a team that has expectations of winning the talent is there there’s no doubt in my mind is the is his mind dialed in on the right things every night I I don’t know man he’s a very hard guy for me to read I was hoping you’d be more into the cam Johnson one just because that’s the only one of these deals that doesn’t make me like cringe uh so maybe the Nuggets hunting for a move but none of these I would say I’ll say this of all of the ones you just mentioned I would put Johnson first I’d put Zack LaVine a very close second and the rest of those guys I just I didn’t I didn’t love I didn’t love is there any is there anybody else out there that you didn’t mention that’s DeAndre DeAndre Hunter is a name that was listed he’s having a really good stretch right now um he would be an interesting one but I don’t think you trade Michael Porter for DeAndre Hunter if you got like bogdanovich and Hunter maybe it would work but you know Hunter was the only name listed yeah I like DeAndre Hunter a lot I mean you’re certainly gonna you’re going to get a big- Time Defender um a little bit streaky with his scoring and his shooting so you know it’s a little bit of a trade-off but there’s no doubt you’re going to get you’re going to get a much more like a physical longer defensive minded Wing not longer but a defensive minded wing with length um that would help them on that end of the floor he’s he’s an interesting one to me and he’s got super High character you might be able to get Larry Nance Jr with him which Denver needs a backup center back up you know big he might be a guy that can pull something like that off I would strongly consider that and also I like the age of the Hunter you know um that that’s you know you’re getting a guy that’s right there you know the right age that you’re looking for that that’d be an interesting one so some of these guys maybe that’s the problem you didn’t pair a second teammate to come to Denver that would have maybe made those deals more interesting to me but if we’re talking straight up in those situations just looking at getting rid of mpj and and replacing him with one of those guys that’s maybe why I didn’t love it if you throw a second piece that is a rotational player for them into the mix that that changes everything and is Michael Porter Jr gonna command that yeah maybe in Atlanta you know maybe to play with his old pal Trey young I don’t know [Music]
